BENEDIGA! - candy from 5 countries - a video!!!

a benediga is an Italian custom..where the Bride and Groom come out on a balcony in the main square of the village to throw candy to the villagers below.

we heard this custom isnt carried out in all parts of Italy...
and the day after our wedding, I found myself in the middle of a tour group in Vernazza just as the guide was saying this was a Vernazza custom..so I told the group about our Bendiga yesterday.

Melina had told us..the little old ladies and the children of the village will see the balcony is decorated...earlier in the day...and they will wait to see the Bride and Groom and for the candy to come down.

Cinque Terre is a very Catholic place.  Marriage is sacred and revereered.  We were offered many blessings and congratulations from the local villagers while we were there.

Julian and I gathered candy from 5 different countries for our Benediga.
Canada - Karen, Ian and Justin homeland
Vietnam - Anna's homeland
Germany - Julian's homeland
China - where we met and fell in love:)
and Italy.

Melina heard in the village the following day, how much the locals enjoyed the International feel of our wedding.

this was an incredible moment..a moment for a Prince and Princess..and Melina really made it special..when we got to the top of the balcony..she said wait for my word to begin..so we took our time..and felt the moment..and kissed..and looked down on the people below who were waiting eagerly in anticipation..and when Melina gave us the signal..the fun really began..  It was wonderful..Magical!

This woman is above us and Julian throws her a Canadian Flag sucker:)
